I really loved to play these kinds of games with my friends in school. When we finished early with an exercise or on rainy days when we couldn’t go outside. This game was such a funny distraction from our boredom. It is also very simple to play, and you can get creative while playing it.
What do you need?
You only need a piece of paper that you divide into four equal sections by folding it. Additionally, just some colored pencils or markers. Anything you can draw with and what you have on hand right now. Of course, you will also need a little bit of creativity and some friends to draw with you.
How to play “Funny Figures”
You start off by dividing your paper into four sections of the same size. You fold the paper over so that when you look at it, you can only see one section. When you draw, make sure neither of you sees the other. That is the entire point of the game, and it is what makes the outcome so amusing. One of your friends starts to draw the head of any kind of figure that he or she has in mind. Be careful that it is the right way around and on the top of the paper when you unfold it again. Then the next friend gets to draw the upper body of a figure on the second section. The person who drew the head has to fold the paper that way so that the next person does not see the head. It is helpful, though, to mark the place where the head is so that the body connects to it. This continues like that for the next two sections as well. The next friend draws the legs, and the last one the shoes or the feet.
In the end, you can unfold the paper together and have a look at your masterpiece. The best case is that all the body parts don’t really fit together, but the figure that resulted from all of your drawings just looks very funny and unique. I always think it is really nice to see the different ideas behind all the body parts and how everyone thinks of something different even though it is such a simple task to draw a pair of shoes, for example.
How to play “Draw the Sentence”
The basic idea of this game is pretty similar to that of “Funny Figures”. The game starts with everyone writing a sentence on the top of a piece of paper. It can be anything, the more complicated the better. It is perfect to leave some space for interpretation. Then you pass your paper on to the person next to you. Fold over the new sentence in front of you so that the others can’t read it anymore. Then you have to try to draw the sentence. The player after that only sees the drawing and has to guess the story that is portrayed there. You can continue passing the papers around until you receive your own paper back. The reveal at the end is once again the most exciting part. You can see how your starting sentence has probably transformed into a totally different one.
I hope you can embrace your creativity and just have a little bit fun drawing with your friends. I included an example of “Draw the Sentence” here. Find some inspiration and get started!
