The immortal jellyfish

On this week’s article on curiosity, science I will present you “Torriropsis Nutricula jellyfish” also known as the immortal jellyfish. As the nickname suggests, this animal has one of the coolest superpowers: Immortality. However, this power is often more theoretical then practical in nature but before I get to deep into this, lets start with the basic concept. For all living creatures’ life is linear, which means birth, ageing and eventually death. For all, except for this resistant 4,5mm x 4.5mm jellyfish, as the life circle really is a circle for him. After he gets older and ages, experiences a lot of stress or gets damaged, he reaches a point where his body decides to reverse the aging process. His cells now transform and evolve backwards which basically makes him younger. On the one hand this gives him the opportunity to resist the aging process. On the other hand, he now has to deal with other threats. One of those is his vulnerability. By transforming backwards his body gets not only younger but at some point, also weaker, which leads to the strange situation that the animals he just recently was hunting, now can hunt him.
