We have all heard of records like the longest jump (8.95 meters) or the tallest person who ever lived (2.72 meters). But today’s article is not about world records, which are very well known. I will present the world records that I think are the funniest 10.
10:
On place ten, we have Michel Lutito from France. With the age of 9 years, he stated a very special diet, what also gave him the name Mr. Eat-All. He got famous for deliberate consumption of indigestible objects. Reason for this extraordinary diet is actually not the urge for fame. It is an eating disorder called pica.
“Pica is the eating or craving of things that are not food. It can be a disorder in itself or medical phenomena. The ingested or craved substance may be biological, natural or manmade.”(Wikipedia)
With 16 years, he started his carrier as entertainer. During his lifetime, he ate things including 18 bicycles, 15 supermarket trolleys, seven TV sets, six chandeliers, two beds, a pair of skis, a computer and a whole airplane, which took him two years. His stomach had thick linings and his digestive juices were unusually powerful. That is why he didn’t get hurt, while eating the sharp metal.
I think, with the ability to eat 900 grams of metal per day, he deserves a place on my leader board. Lets continue with number 9.
9:
The longest hiccup of all time. What was your longest hiccup? Maybe one hour? Or one day? Charles Osborn hiccuped for 68 years. He was born in 1894. With 28 years, his hiccup started and didn’t end until he was 96. Suddenly, it just stopped. One year after that, he passed away. Until today, doctors couldn’t find out the reason for his unusual hiccups.
8:
On place eight, we have the first real talent. Sean Shannon broke in 1995 the world record for the fastest talking. He presented the 259 words monologue “to be or not to be” in only 23.8 seconds. This are almost 11 words per second. You think you can beat that? You might be able to say 11 words in a second, but continue that for the next 23 seconds.
7:
On place seven, we have a pretty sad background story. Les Stewart was a police typing instructor. He loved his job, until he got withdrawn, because of an accident, followed by a series illness. Since he was not able to work anymore, he started to write down the numbers (as words) from one to one million at the typewriter. It took him 16 years and seven month, as well as seven manual typewriters, 1000 ink ribbons and 19,890 pages.
6:
When I read about this world record for the first time, I was laughing, because it is so random. The fastest marathon, dressed as an elf. It was achieved by Ashley Payne in London. He ran the marathon in 2 hours 58 minutes and 16 seconds.
5:
Imagine you are struck by a lightning, but survive that. Are you lucky or unlucky? Roy C. Sullivan was struck by a lightning seven times and he survived all of them. His first time in 1942 and his last time in 1977. Once, he just lost a toe nail, and another time he seared different body parts. I think it’s fair to say that he had blessings in disguise.
4:
Next we have a world record, that you can try to beat at home. How many spoons can you balance on your face at the same time? They have to stay for 30 seconds. The current record is hold by Dalibor Jablanovic, who balanced 31 spoons on his face.
Lets get to the top three.
3:
On third place, we have the largest pizza, that was ever made. With an area of 1261.65 square meters, the largest pizza was made in Italy. They even had to use cranes in order to put the tomato sauce and the cheese on it and also to bake it.
2:
The silver medal goes to the Glendale cheerleading team. In 2011l, they set the record for the most people, fitting in a smart-car. With 20 people, they are not the sole record holder. Three years later, the Comets cheerleading team, equaled the number.
1:
And finally, at the top of the podium, we have the man, who holds the world record, for the most world records. The honor goes to Ashrita Furman, who broke over 600 world records and still holds over 200 of them. He set records like ‘the most candles on a birthday cake (72,585)’, the longest time to hula hoop underwater and the Greatest distance traveled on a bicycle balancing a milk bottle on the head. But of course the most impressive is the amount of records he holds. He also is the only person, breaking a record on every single continent.
I hope you liked the article and I made you lough at some point. There are many more world records, you probably don’t know are existing.
